Production Orders Graphic Sequence in SAP ECC of J. García Carrión

J. García Carrión had the SAP ECC system for supply chain processes and activities management, where they performed the tasks of demand planning, needs planning, production planning and control, replenishment management, storage management and despatcher management.

At an operational planning level, the production orders sequencing was carried out manually with ad hoc developments. The SAP solutions to manage programming/reprogramming and optimization of production lines showed limitations regarding the management of reference numbers manufactured by J. García Carrión, or else, had to implement architecture and interphases of certain complexity.

J. García Carrión, in its desire for innovation and continuous improvement of processes, they identified in the pharma sector (contract manufacturing) a graphic solution based on SAP ECC, easy to implement, applicable to large consumption goods and with enough functionally to organize the production line programming.

The main target pursued by this Project, was to equip the production site planners with an orders programming/sequencing graphic tool enabling them to have necessary information and functionality availability in order to perform orders programming and production chain optimization tasks.

Such a tool would have to be integrated with SAP in real time so that any orders programming or reprogramming would be considered by the MRP process and known by other departments involved in the supply chain, mainly production and replenishment.

The solution was to be valid for the full amount of manufacturing lines within their four stories, with a gradual start up in the production environment in order to minimize risk and avoid all impact on the operational activity of plants.

The implementation of the graphical programming tool has enabled J. García Carrión:

  • To have greater ease in orders programming/reprogramming and agility in changes and contingencies management.
  • To improve fulfillment of commitments and of communication with the customers.
  • Reducing inventories and loss due to obsolescence.
  • Expand long-term vision concerning factory operations, replenishment improvement and reducing stock breakage.
  • Improving productivity by being more efficient in sequencing management.

In summary, currently J. García Carrión can do more with less: improving service level while reducing costs.
